Active Bits' founder and Director, Steve Stone, has garnered over 35 years' experience in the electronics industry, working for organisations ranging in staff size from under ten to tens of thousands. With a wealth of experience in military, defence, security and scientific research environments, as well as substantial experience working with commercial companies, Steve has developed concept demonstrators, prototypes and products for manufacture. He is also a co-author of patents on eye-safe Lidar and retroreflecting modulators, and has additionally contributed to papers on adaptive optics and laser beam control.

Steve started his career as an Electronics Engineer with Racal SES, creating RF synthesiser and filters. 18 months later Steve joined ICG, a manufacturer of high-resolution colour scanners and laser imagesetters. Starting with designing electronics and software systems for the graphic arts industry, Steve became New Technology Manager and designed new product architectures as well as advising on patents and technology strategies for the group. His next role was as Senior Software and Electronics Engineer with QinetiQ, working in a variety of roles on numerous projects in scientific and defence R&D. Ten years later, he took the step of establishing his own company.
